as you may already know 1st of october is the national day in China. this year was the 60th anniversary since the founding of the People's Republic of China under the leader Mao-Tse Tung. it was this day where the newly chairman of the central people's government of PRC made the declaration for a new regime.
in the speech he gave amongst a mass rally he declared "the people throughout China have been plunged into bitter sufferings and tribulations since the Chiang Kai-Shek reactionary government betrayed the fatherland, conspired with imperialists, and launched a counter-revolutionary war. however, our PLA, supported by the people throughout the country, fighting heroically and selflessly to defend the territorial sovereignty of the fatherland, to protect the people's lives and property, to relieve the people of their sufferings, and to struggle for their rights, has eliminated the reactionary troops and overthrown the reactionary rules of the National Government. Now the war of the people's liberation has been fundamentally won and the majority of the people throughout the country have been liberated." He proclaimed the founding of a new republic and that Peking, or now known as Beijing, as the capital.
back to the present, celebrations for this big milestone started at late september with performances collectively called 'revival road', it was a metaphor that portrayed the journey we (the chinese people) went through for national independence. Then there was a National Day reception at the Great Hall on the eve of the big day. in the morning of the 1st at Tiananmen Square, President, Hu JinTao, opened the proceedings with a speech. Then is follows by the tradition parade by the Military with civilian activities and pagentry afterwards. Firework display on the evening of the day with more performances. the celebration goes on for a few days and mid-october there will be an exhibition at the beijing exhibition centre (if anyone is in china during that time definitely worth seeing). the celebrations captured the stories of history that went through for independence and beyond leading up to this milestone. as chinese myself, i am very proud of this milestone but i did not celebrate =\. cannot really feel that atmosphere when your a couple of millions of miles across the pacific in australia =='. i wish China and us all the best for eternity; the country, prosperity, recognition and peace, and for the people, health, health and more health... after that prosperity and so the eradication of poverty in china.
